Repairing a toilet

Install, repairs and replacements

Toilet repairs done once, done right

A broken toilet means letting a stranger into your home and trusting them to do it properly. That’s the bit most people worry about, so here’s what you’re getting.

Ready Set Plumb has spent 15+ years on the tools across Sydney, with a 4.9-star rating from 300+ Google reviews to show for it. Every plumber is part of our in-house team, we don’t subcontract your job out to whoever’s free. The business is led by Ryan, a licensed plumber and gas fitter with 22 years’ experience.

You’re covered by $20M public liability insurance, and we’re members of Master Plumbers NSW and the Strata Community Association NSW, so we handle owner-occupier, rental and strata jobs the right way.

What we fix

Common toilet problems we fix

Most toilet faults fall into a handful of jobs. Here’s what’s likely going on, and what we do about it.

Running toilet

Toilet that won’t stop running

That constant trickle or hiss usually points to a worn inlet or outlet valve, a flapper that isn’t sealing, or a float set too high. It’s quietly running up your water bill the whole time. We find the cause, replace the failed part, and set the cistern so it fills and stops cleanly, usually in one visit.

Leaking Toilet

Leaking toilet

Water pooling at the base, damp around the bowl, or a drip you keep wiping up. A leak is worth jumping on early, because water sitting against the floor can reach the subfloor and, in units, the place below you. We trace where it’s coming from, the base seal, the cistern, the connections or the bowl itself and fix it before it turns into damage.

Toilet Blockage

Blocked toilet that won’t flush

If the bowl fills and drains slowly, or won’t clear at all, you’ve got a blockage. We clear it on the spot where we can. If it keeps coming back, that often points to something further down the line, and we’ll check the drain properly rather than just papering over it. For recurring or sewer-side blockages, see our blocked drains service, and for damaged pipes causing repeat blockages, our pipe relining team can reline without digging up your yard.

Toilet wont flush

Toilet that won’t flush properly

A weak flush, a button that does nothing, or a cistern that won’t fill is usually a worn flush valve, a faulty button mechanism or a blocked inlet. We replace the parts that have failed and get the flush back to full strength.

Cracked Cistern

Cracked cistern, broken button or worn parts

Cracked cisterns, snapped buttons, perished seals and worn washers are everyday repairs for us. We carry common parts to suit most Australian toilets, including older Caroma cisterns, so in most cases we repair rather than replace, which keeps the cost down.

Wobbling Toilet

Wobbly or rocking toilet

A toilet that rocks has usually lost its floor seal or fixings. Left alone, that movement breaks the seal and lets out smells and water. We re-secure the pan, replace the seal, and leave it solid.

Replace & install

The honest repair-vs-replace call

If your toilet is cracked through the pan or cistern, very old and water-hungry, or failing repeatedly, replacement usually makes more financial sense than another patch-up. A cracked ceramic pan can’t be repaired, once it’s leaking from the crack, it’s replacement time.

Toilet replacement

Toilet Replacement

You won’t be pushed toward the most expensive option. We’ll talk you through:

  • Whether a like-for-like swap or an efficiency upgrade to a modern dual-flush is the smarter spend
  • The right setup for your bathroom, close-coupled, back-to-wall or concealed in-wall cistern
  • A total fixed price upfront, supply, install and old-toilet removal included

Most straightforward replacements are completed same day, so you’re not left without a working toilet overnight.

Toilet installation

New Toilet Installation

Building, renovating or adding an ensuite? Get it installed to AS/NZS 3500 standards, with:

  • Leak-free connections to water and waste, done right the first time
  • A compliant pan-to-floor seal and tidy, code-compliant pipework
  • Cistern fitted, flush set, and the whole lot tested before we leave

And we clean up before we leave. No mess, no surprises.

I contacted Ryan based on a recommendation, and was so impressed by the service. He was able to arrange a visit on short notice, which is much appreciated when it’s the toilet that’s broken and the kids are toilet training!

Sally Peacock

Jack got the job done quickly and with no fuss, explaining our options from the start. We were dealing with a flushed nappy primarily and ended up finding some tree roots to clear just in time. Thanks guys!

C and A Longman

Rang Ready Set Plumb in the morning about a leaky toilet cistern and it was fixed by 3pm. Jack was pleasant, courteous, efficient, and effective. 5-Star Service, a pleasure to deal with1

Paul Hawker

Sam and Wayne did an excellent job replacing our toilet and cleaning up when they had finished. I was very impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail. I would definitely use them again.

Kevin Ellwood

It’s not easy to find good tradies, but Ryan is a true professional. Had an issue with a leaky toilet, called late in the day and he was around the next morning and had it fixed in no time.

Major Zero

The toilet ran constantly, with the hum of every homeowner who ever whispered ‘I can fix this myself.’ Ready Set Plumb arrived EXACTLY when they said. The technician surveyed the devastation, quoted fair, lifted the old toilet, and scraped that unholy ring like a knight exorcising evil. Water now goes DOWN and AWAY exactly as intended!

Our Minimum Standards

No boot prints, no mess, no exceptions

Clean uniforms. Clean boots. Drop sheets down before we start. Tools, packaging, and offcuts out with us when we leave. If we need to open a wall or ceiling, we’ll tell you first and leave the area tidy.

  • Drop sheets laid before any work begins
  • Shoe covers worn inside your home
  • All debris, offcuts, and packaging removed when we leave
  • Work area left clean and tidy, not “tradie tidy,” actually tidy
  • Any access to walls, ceilings, or other areas discussed with you before we touch them
  • A walkthrough of the completed work before we pack up

You won’t find boot prints on your tiles or copper shavings in your bath. That’s not a bonus we charge for. It’s the minimum standard.

FAQ

Toilet Repair Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the things people ask us most when something’s gone wrong.

A toilet that won’t stop running is the most common job, usually caused by a worn inlet or outlet valve or a flapper that no longer seals. It’s a quick fix for a licensed plumber and worth doing promptly, because a running toilet wastes water and adds to your bill.
If the toilet is structurally sound and only a part has failed, a repair is almost always the better spend. Replacement makes sense when the pan or cistern is cracked, the toilet is very old and inefficient, or repeat faults are costing more than a new unit. Ready Set Plumb gives you the honest call either way.
It’s worth acting on quickly. A leak at the base usually means a failed floor seal, and water sitting against the floor can reach the subfloor or, in apartments, the unit below. Get it looked at before it becomes a bigger repair.
Yes. We install toilets you’ve purchased yourself, or we can supply and install one to suit your bathroom. Either way it’s fitted by a licensed plumber and done to Australian standards.
